Cooling Schedule
Strategy defining the progressive decrease of temperature, typically geometric T(t+1) = α×T(t) with 0 < α < 1.
Temperature Plateau
Period during which temperature remains constant to allow reaching a thermodynamic equilibrium before cooling.
Cold Acceptance
Final phase where only improvement is accepted, equivalent to a classic gradient descent.
Quenching
Rapid cooling that can trap the algorithm in a local optimum, unlike the progressive cooling of annealing.
Thermal Backstep
Temporary increase in temperature to escape a local optimum before continuing the decrease.
Critical Temperature
Temperature threshold below which the system begins to converge to low-energy solutions.
Hill-Climbing Acceptance
Probabilistic acceptance strategy allowing exploration of higher energy solutions to avoid local minima.
